Greg Sorrell

My name is Greg Sorrell and I live in Greenville, NC. I am a novice carver and started in March 2003. I mostly carve out of tan cork with Tupelo heads in a traditional style with Chroma and Josonja Paint. I am working on a few all tupelo decoys for the next hunting season and for a few purchase request. I have taken ribbons at the Ward World Championships, Core Sound decoy festival, Havre de Grace decoy festival, and East Carolina wildfowl festval.

My favorite decoy to carve is ringnecks at the moment but I am leaning toward more blackducks. My favorite carver is Ned Burgess from Churches Island, NC who as long since passed and modern carver Tom Christie and Tom Matus. Both of these carvers can blow your mind with their carving and paint. My biggest suggestion to the beginning carver is find a local teacher and second "A duck is round" make sure your decoy doesn't have any flat spots!
